Friday, started badly but ended okay...|
Work was...strange. I think everyone's going to go completely crazy before the end of May. I feel like I'm walking a tightrope, trying not to take sides or get involved in all the little dramas. It's not that I don't have opinions or agree with one person or side over another, but I was always taught to be a PROFESSIONAL at work and to me that includes not having a meltdown in front of anybody, not getting into a screaming match with a parent in the front office, and not airing all the dirty laundry in public so to speak. And I work with many different people throughout the day and excuse me for being "old-fashioned" as someone recently called me but I happen to think we should try our best to get along and not have to resort to screaming and threatening. Maybe something's in the water, people who have always been calm are suddenly the complete opposite.
Well, my sister invited us over for dinner unexpectedly which was fine with me. It was actually a very enjoyable evening except for one child (not mine this time!) who desperately needed some time out. But the food was good as was the conversation. Isn't it amazing how simple things can raise your spirits and make the world seem a kinder and better place?
I'm home a little early today which is always nice. I have spaghetti and meatballs going on the stove. Well, actually it's just the meatballs and sauce, I haven't done the noodles yet. It's not exactly homemade, I used a jar of either Ragu or Prego, can't remember which and then browned some of those frozen Italian meatballs. But I also add a lot more seasonings and onions and peppers to my sauce so it ends up tasting like I spend a lot more time with it than I actually did. You'd have no complaints if you tasted it.
My husband's not home yet, he's trying to finish up a job and having a lot of trouble with the guy who works for him. The guy misses just as many days as he works and then complains when his check at the end of the week's not as much as he wants it. I think my husband's about fed up with it, he's given the guy every chance he could and has done many things for him including helping him get his utilities turned on when he moved and even giving him clothes. My husband's been doing a slow burn though the past few days over the guy skipping work and then been hungover when he does work. I figure their association will come to an end soon which is fine with me.
I still haven't read much of that Lonesome Dove book by Larry McMurtry, maybe I should ditch that one right now and start on another one. Usually I don't quit a book but I just can't get interested in these right now.
A friend of mine downloaded some of the songs they've played on Supernatural, "Don't Fear the Reaper," "Carry on My Wayward Son," "Bad Moon Rising," etc., and put them on a CD for me. So I'm going down the road with this blaring in the car, probably looking like an idiot with a big goofy smile on my face or singing along. I'll be glad when this strike's over so they'll make some more episodes and hopefully renew the show for a 4th season.
I'm getting new flooring put down in my living room and kitchen. Hopefully the guys will get it finished today. They've had a lot of problems with it, this is an old house and I think everything's settled over the years and nothing's quite straight any more. But the part that's already down looks wonderful and will be so much easier to keep clean than the almost white carpet that had been there.
I need to get out afterwhile and buy a couple of birthday cards. An old school friend's birthday's tomorrow and if I mail a card today it may get there Monday. Then a family member has one next week. I need to pick up some groceries while I'm out. What I really want is broiled salmon. I put a lot of peppery seasonings on mine and it is wonderful but the price of salmon has gone up a lot the past few months and I haven't been buying it.
I checked out three of Larry McMurtry's books at the library. I should have just gotten one because so far it's slow reading, I just can't get into it yet. But I think it's more of a can't concentrate thing with me than not actually being interested in the books. I need some vitamins or herbs or something for my mind to make it sharp and quick again.
I walked around the yard with my coffee this morning, it wasn't as cold as it's been. Looking for signs of sprinng which is ridiculous as it's two months away, even in this area of the country. I do need to do something about what's left of the roses, they need trimming and I have to find out when it's okay to put some rose food on them...now or when it's warmer weather. They'll be blooming before a lot of other things by the end of March or April.
Just a nice boring everyday day today...just what I want.

It's too quiet...|
I love October, all the colors changing and a touch of coolness in the air. I bought some mums and a couple of pumpkins to set on the front porch. I need to get my Halloween stuff out but it's behind a lot of other boxes...I have been so unorganized this year! Whatever happened to the girl who labeled everything and had knew where it was at...
It seems like the EU fandom is awfully quiet the past few weeks. Actually, the whole Star Wars

Hurricane Dean's starting to look a little scary.
Did I watch Supernatural again last night even though it was a rerun? Well, of course. Dean was so funny with all his knowledge about obscure horror films. And what was Sam doing all this time? Wasn't it Sam we saw as a little boy sitting glued to the TV while poor Dean played watchdog? And what about all the motel rooms, surely Sam has watched the late show, I mean not to know Poltergeist is pretty weird.

Tropical Storm Dean?!! That's funny. Well, not really for those in its path, but it just seems so weird every time they say Dean.
It was SO hot in church today, my head was throbbing. Even our pastor was overheating but you can believe he cut nothing short. The AC was running and all the ceiling fans on but it just wouldn't cool off. Plus the place was packed so that probably contributed to the heat.
I had intended on spending the afternoon with a new mystery book, "Out of Rangge" by C.J. Box. It's the 4th or 5th book about Joe Pickett who's something like a game warden. I enjoyed the other books so this one's probably good too. But I never got to read much of it, the phone rang constantly and my husband had five visitors spread out over the afternoon. And they certainly weren't here to talk to me but you know how it is when company's in the house, you can't relax. Then it was time for evening services so I just gave up on reading anything.
Let's see...how many days until the 28th??? I hope I'm off work that day because I want to get my book early and spend the day with it. There's something else about the 28th, every time I see that date my mind tells me to remember something but I don't know what it is.
Can it possibly get any hotter? I hope not. The AC has been running constantly, I'm afraid to see what my next electric bill will look like. I need to do a lot of yardwork but we're under a heat advisory. Maybe if I wait until just before dark, I can get a little of it done.
I'd really like to get the new Legacy comic, I think it's already out but can't afford to drive an hour away just to get it unfortunately. the last store that sold comics in my area folded up last year. I guess I need to get organised and subscribe to what I want.
Doesn't Inferno come out on the 28th? So there's that to look forward to plus the Supernatural Season 2 DVD set. Isn't that sad...my life revolves around books and DVD's and new movies and fanfiction. Actually, I love it, I guess I'll be a kid forever.
